COVID-19 Death Rates ~ Country
Key Points
We explored the death rates (death toll/total confirmed cases) of COVID-19 by WHO region, then by median age of countries, then grouped the countries with lowest death rates with median age >= 25 into two regions: Middle East and Central Asia. In the section “Functional Foods”, we identify that functional spices and functional foods for these two regions are:
- turmeric enhanced by black pepper, saffron and cardamom in Middle East.
- (pickled) brassica vegetables, red beetroots and bone soup/stew in Central Asia.
Key Points:
- The higher median ages of Europe and Americas regions (Figure 1), the higher prevalences of obesity are (Figure 2) , and the higher COVID-19 death rates ( death toll / total confirmed cases) (Figure 3) are compared with other WHO regions. This general trend is in agreement with “COVID-19 Hospitalization and Death by Age” published by CDC.
- Daily diet in a country may affect the death rate. Among the countries with median age >= 40, the COVID-19 death rates of Russia, South Korea, Japan and Germany are lowest compared with France, UK, Italy, Spain and Canada. This leads to explore diets among countries with the lowest COVID-19 death rates.
Data Analysis: COVID-19 Death Rates by WHO Region
Key Points:
Countries with lowest COVID-19 death rates are grouped into Middle East, Central Asia (and Slovakia & Belarus), and South/East/South-East Asia. As the diet is simple in Middle East and Central Asia, we study their diets first.
